VERY RARE 26 de julio, July 26th type-written Letter. An approximate translation reads as follows: “Message to the Congress of Orthodox
Militants Comrades in the ideal … it is hard for to me to write these words from afar when my thoughts do not for
one minute abandon my homeland, martyred and enslaved, and for this reason we fi ght without rest. It is not even
possible to ensure when these lines will be printed, if congress permits it, because in Cuba there exists no security of
anything and the few rights that exist do not allow the freedom of any inherent prerogative whether of the citizen
or a party, rather there exist only handouts which are only given on the condition they are begged for when you are
on your knees and asking for freedom for 3 years in a row on my knees (my note: since 1953 - when the July 26th
movement began) has only served that we look with greater ease for the yolk on the necks (backs) of men. With those
already in place in Cuba, and in this regard one describes and palpitates according to the same line, in spite of the
adversity we have to signal it is not about trying or attempting to reconcile disparate and absurd ideas in this regard
it is more so about driving forward with these facts and acting upon a true guide (objective) of our cause which will
carry it forward beneath the fl ag of triumph. According to this same line of thought, we have only the good to concede
and to attribute to ourselves with utmost humility the work of humble servants of Cuba and to obtain from you only
the most enthusiastic cooperation of a company where everything is only sacrifi ce and with these fi rm hopes and your
brave friends we attribute absolute faith that we will be supported with all the necessary possible resources, and which
will contribute in and of itself a great standard and bulwark for the fi nal future development of our cause. Taking this
message, we will take votes and exhortations for its fi rm cooperation in such circumstances and so that nobody in the
present or the future can interfere with either organization notably united they center themselves with a sole base and a common force we wish
to leave a fi rm consistency of our recognition of yourselves which will allow us to regroup the fi rst contingent of our landing party with fi rm
support(?) and selfl essness in the most critical days of the Revolution which allows us to recover to continue the fi ght with more force than ever,
convinced that a people such as ours is worthy of all the sacrifi ces… Signed Josef ......? Fidel Castro Ruz For the Patriotic 26th of July club of

102. Rare Stephen Crane. A Rare Signed Work of Stephen Crane, On His Short Story,
The Wise Men Stephen Crane was one of America’s great realistic writers, and his works have been
credited with marking the beginning of modern American Naturalism. His Civil War novel The Red
Badge of Courage (1895) is a classic of American literature that virtually every schoolchild reads.
Tragically, Crane died young at the age of 29, and his autograph is extremely uncommon. In 1898,
a limited edition, hard copy book, entitled “The Lanthorn Book,” was published for members of the
Lanthorn Club in New York. It contained stories from contemporary authors, among them Crane,
who contributed his work, “The Wise Men.” Only 125 copies were printed, and of those a handful
survive. Crane signed them. Book signed, being an original copy of “The Lanthorn Book,” number
52 of 125, internally in wonderful condition, original covers present but loose.

125. Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. Hank Porter (1900 ? -1951) joined the Disney studio in 1935. He was assigned to the Disney Publicity studio and was responsible for producing a wealth of materials: art for the monthly Disney feature for Good Housekeeping Magazine (taking over from Tom Wood, after his passing in 1940), ad pieces, theatre posters, covers for the earlier issues of Dell’s Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories, magazine covers for various publishers that ran Disney articles, including the long-running Mickey Mouse Magazine (he did interior work for this title, as well), and design art for toy makers. Porter assembled Disney’s group of illustrators created the many squadron patch designs for the various WWII U. S. military units that requested them, with Porter himself proving to be the most prolifi c. Hank Porter was also
the artist selected to create the art for the Sunday funnies pages that introduced Snow White and Pinocchio, just before each fi lm’s offi cial release. Think about that for a moment, as that would mean that Porter’s interpretations were the fi rst real view that the world ever had of Disney’s fi rst two full-length animated features. Porter didn’t design the characters, but he captured the studio’s versions of the characters precisely, including the scenery designs of the great Gustav Tenggren. Hank Porter, the great workhorse for Disney’s Publicity Studio, retired in 1950. He passed away in 1951.
Disney Publicity artist Hank Porter’s comic strip adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs debuted in late 1937 and continued into 1938, completing the movie’s tale. The fi ve unsigned penciled Porter pieces that we are offering here are tightly executed layouts, done in standard pencil as separate tiers (three tiers made up a weekly installment). These would have been transferred to the fi nished art page which then received ink to make it camera ready. All fi ve of these represent one tier from fi ve different weekly installments, beginning with the eighth installment where Snow fi rst met the dwarfs (when the seven little men are fi rst seen in silhouette). Each is drawn on a 31” x 7-1/4” sheet of lightweight illustration paper that has been archival mounted into a thick protective matte.
Installments: #8 - bottom tier (1/2” vertical tear in blank fi rst panel - 1st view of the cottage and the dwarfs marching in a silhouetted line over a fallen log bridge); #12 center tier (vertical center crease, and age spots and chipping on far right edge - dwarfs argue whether Snow should stay with them or not); #13 top tier (release date March 6, 1938 - refl attened vertical centerfold - argument continues from the previous week); #14 center tier (refl attened vertical centerfold - the Old Woman with the apple! - the dwarfs dive into Snow’s prepared dinner); and #15 bottom tier (dwarfs let Snow have their bedroom, then they go to sleep in the kitchen).
