1. Canned tomatoes- You can use any good quality canned tomatoes. However, I had the Mutti Pelati Canned tomatoes at home and used that for this recipe. This recipe is not strict like the Neapolitan pizza sauce recipe; hence, you can use any good quality tomatoes for this recipe.

2. Salt- This is a rather simple and self-explanatory ingredient.

3. Sugar- Now, I know there would be some people who would say sugar does not go in pizza sauce, BUT, if your tomatoes are not sweet enough on their own, it is a good idea to add some sugar.

8. Onion Powder(optional)

9. Tomato Paste(Optional)- This is another ingredient that I have not used but many people have suggested that pizzerias in New York do add some tomato paste in their pizza sauces. They dont add a lot of it but it does give some flavour to the sauce.

  • 400 grams Canned Tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • 1.5 tbsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Dried Oregano
  • 5 leaves Fresh Basil(you can use dry basil if you do not have the fresh one)
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil

  • Take out the canned tomatoes in a bowl(you can directly put it in the jar as well for convinence).

  • Add the oregano, salt, garlic(you can grate it for easier blending), basil and olive oil in the bowl.

  • Now put the entire mixture in a blendder and blend everything till it forms a smooth paste.

Notes

1. You can put the tomatoes and all the other ingredients in the blender at the beginning and then just blend it and pour it out.

2. You can add onion powder to this sauce but I love it without and don’t see the need to put onion powder.

3. You can adjust the salt and sugar according to your taste and according to the quality of the tomatoes.

4. If you are using fresh tomatoes then boil them till their skin curls and remove the peel. Then place these tomatoes in the blender, add the above ingredients in it and continue with the recipe.
